To achieve the desired flatness and precision finishing of an oil pump cover as highlighted below, a customer in the automotive industry contracted Precise Lapping & Grinding Corp. (PLG) to process the part to their specifications. This cover measures 6" in diameter and is composed of hot rolled steel. Employing our double disc grinder, and lapping machinery, the part was treated with a combination of grinding and lapping techniques, holding a 0.0002" flatness tolerance.

The material met an ultra-smooth 2 RZ finish. Testing and inspections were carried out during all phases of production including flatness and finish checks, as well as dimensional verifications of pocket depth and thickness.

18,000 pump covers are processed weekly, shipped to the customer in South America. The customer's expectations were exceeded by our ability to meet their quality demands while observing their cost projections and delivery conditions.
